Replanning of the house frequently leads to the emergence of windowless rooms: they may serve as offices, living rooms, game rooms and even bedrooms. How to design them in such a way that they don’t remind of a dark closet?
1. Additional light sources
The golden rule of windowless room interiors is the arrangement of versatile light sources. But this doesn’t mean that you must just buy a chandelier with powerful bulbs – your task is to simulate daylight. For this purpose it’s better to arrange a few lamps giving diffused light. Ideally if the lamps are out of sight – this enhances the illusion of natural light coming from a window. They can be installed on the ceiling or recessed. As for the color temperature, it must be close to neutral white (daytime) light.
2. Internal windows
4. Ar2rks and Wall Murals
Photo-wallpaper or a beautiful white-framed landscape may become a “window into the nature”. And panoramic pictures with the image of open windows overlooking a green lawn may be a good alternative to the real window.
5. Room Dividers
Room dividers arranged instead of walls are one more designer trick. On the one hand they provide necessary privacy, and on the other hand, can be removed to let the daylight flow into the windowless room when needed.
So that the lack of a window wasn’t felt so forcefully, its presence may be simulated with the help of a common big-size mirror. It looks less fake than a faux window.
7. White walls
Their potential in extending the space is known even by those who barely know anything about interior design rules. This is explained by this color’s ability to reflect light instead of absorbing it. So, the ceiling in a windowless room must be definitely white. Color scheme of walls and furniture should also be preferably light. Let small décor and accessories be a bright accent.
